Hello, all, and a big, I mean BIG sigh of relief. This kitty issue has been keeping me up for days and now I feel I’ve done something. I was honestly going to give up on Arnold going into the trap. He was sitting at the bottom of my deck stairs in a little spot of sun. I suppose hunger had gotten the best of him. I had written the last blog and was going to knock down the trap and just pick up some antibiotics when there he was! Going in! Slowly and carefully and then POP! the release shut the door. He just kept on eating. I threw a cover over the cage as instructed to keep in calm and he continued eating. He was still eating while in my neighbor’s car; he was just that starved.

We delivered him without incident. He never made a sound. Just like my formerly ferals–they don’t give themselves away by talking, as they can become another animal’s lunch. (You should hear my cat family jabber now!)

I will be contacted tomorrow. Please send your positive vibes that he doesn’t have a serious incurable illness. I am hoping for the best as the two summers ago he had a 4-in-1 shot when he was neutered. And I hope his eye can be saved.

You can also train Sorbet and Gourmet to respect Arnold’s turf by keeping a squeeze bottle nearby (e.g. empty Windex sprayer) with a solution of 50% water and 50% ammonia. A couple of shots of that and they will find other places to mooch a meal and pick a fight. It won’t hurt them since ammonia is basically a combination of cat pee and chicken poop in a bottle. They will be so busy washing they won’t have time to pick on Arnold and they will keep a wary lookout for the cat that sprayed on them.

reply gileson wrote on Nov 23, ’10 Now that you know the trap works, you should try to trap Sorbetto and Gourmet and deliver them to the homeless animal shelter. Or just take them down to 51 W 52nd St and turn them loose. I had friends who worked there for years (they called it the “Big Black Rock” and it was/is the HQ for CBS.) They said even though sometimes they didn’t leave until 3 or 4 AM they were never worried about the hugger-muggers hitting on them. They claimed the rats kept them away. Seems like just the place for a big “bruiser.” As an alternative, you could take one at a time for a train ride. Grab a train at Penn Station going into CT and get off at the first stop and “accidentally” leave your cargo on the train. Repeat as necessary. It might be the best thing for them. They could end up on a farm and learn to work for a living. It would be fun to see a couple of city cats try to bully a barn cat.
