Remember the George and Ira Gershwin song, “Let’s Call the Whole thing Off?” I feel like I should breaking into song every time I speak to a certain home for the aged that has so many departments and possibilities for my mother, they leave me spinning. I am being courted by the assisted living department, the nursing home department, the senior living building. Each one claims to be the best possible place. The senior living building person felt that my mother didn’t need a nursing home. The nursing home person claimed that my mother couldn’t live in the senior building. And still, the assisted living wing remained a possibility.

So, not only do we have potatoes and po-tah-toes in the picture, we also have tomatoes and no matter how you slice them, they ain’t the same. I am in the middle of a kind of bidding war: the apartment building person wants me to come over and take a look while the nursing home person feels that I should return and take another look.

I think I better leave this garden of nightshade, and maybe watch a video.

By the time you read this I will likely be sitting in an elder lawyer’s office having a consultation about finances and strategies. It’s going to be a long hour and who knows how many hours thereafter.

Finally I am getting started on the big potatoes. No matter how you pronounce it, I hope it all makes sense.
