The Eyes Have It …
Ampersand in his cage at the vet
Happy New Year, all.
No big New Year’s Eve celebrations here. Sometimes quiet is welcome and observation of the hoopla is the key.
Ampersand was brought back to the vet last Thursday and one vet said,” he’s going home on Saturday, he can’t stay here.” That was after the dry-eye diagnosis which seems to have been abandoned and we are back to the original: virus. (??)
I just want to say that when Play was recuperating at the vet after his surgery, he came down with what seems to be the same miserable eye infection. Some germ is lurking in those cages, for my money.
There had been a poor half blind sick cat in the next cage whose eyes were so gunked together they couldn’t be opened.
Getting back to Ampersand, I hadn’t seen him in five days. I thought he was coming home on Saturday but didn’t. I couldn’t see him on Sunday, I though maybe Monday was the take-home day. By Tuesday I needed to see for myself. This kitty isn’t coming home any time soon: his eyes are dry and the membranes are inflamed. I was taken aback. I was told he was getting better but he didn’t look much better. In fact, he was miserable.
It took a minimum of two people to administer meds and it was so uncomfortable for everyone involved. One of Ampersand’s back claws might have gotten caught on something and had been bleeding. No one noticed until I pointed it out. Now they just open the door and treat him IN the cage.
I opened his cage and he hissed. He had no idea who I was.
I stuck my hand in despite the hissy fit and started petting in constant strokes down his back. He gradually relaxed, sniffed my hand and looked at me. He knew who I was and calmed down. I found some treats and fed him. He gave me his chin, he started to roll over.
The kitty who resides at the vet as a permanent residence. She gets very upset by change
There were barely any cats left for adoption. The same chubby oreo cat was still in the cage, the one that no one wants and who is nervous and has trouble keeping food down. Several sad dogs. And Ampersand over on the end looking miserable.

Happiness does a lot for healing.
Sigh… it seems health is just a passing state. Double sigh…
