Part 82: Mother-Daughter Journey: Look Carefully
This is the eighty-second installment of my Mother-Daughter Journey Series, written on a special day.
What is the secret of longevity? It must be attitude. What is the secret of my on-going migraine issue? It must be attitude.
Why do I have a pit in my gut?
Today is my mother’s 98th birthday.
We spent the day yesterday at the ophthalmologist’s office.
We were shocked: My mother has gone blind in one eye from macular degeneration. (Her previous doctor never caught this and she saw him just a few months ago.)
The “good” eye is affected, too.
She loved to read and do cross-word puzzles, and now it is impossible.
We are going to see a retina specialist next week.
My mother lived through two wars and survived.
She survived my father–he could be like a war, too.
She told me not to worry, that it was all going to be OK.
And these words came from all 4’8″ of her.
As long as they could fix the “good” eye, she would be happy; she needed, she said, “to see flowers.”
This series starts here:

And she survived Florida and the huge move back home to “her city.” Happy Birthday to a beautiful lady, and blessings to you and her…hugs and hopes for a good outcome with her eyes.
So sorry about the eye. May the other one be saved!! Even 98 year olds need to see!! -Ruth
Keep us posted on your mom’s eyes. I will keep thinking positive that they can help her vision. Hang in there. I hope other than the bad news the rest of her birthday was a really good one.
A very happy birthday to Pauline and a warm hug to Susan from Dani xxx
Mazel tov on your mother’s 98th birthday! Sorry to hear about her eyes.
I hope they can fix the “good” eye, dear Sue.
Happy 98th Birthday to your mom… and for her to see all the flowers she wants to.
