Migraine Relief?
What a typical migraine aura looks like. A C-shaped dark form facing in the direction of its choice, replete with shimmering gold zig-zags.
I am sitting here with vision loss on one side: my daily ocular migraine.
Call from Cushing Neurological: My headache doctor is putting in for the new drug. Being that I have tried all kinds of drugs, machines, glasses, computer screens, meditation, Chinese herbs (bleh) acupuncture, therapeutic massage, Botox, biofeedback, neurofeedback.
I am game.
When I was a small child crying in pain with headaches, spinning from vertigo, unable to eat, my mother was told I had a “sinus condition.” Well, I likely did, but migraine was the culprit.
I was a 5-year old trying to play and be a 5-year old with ice cold bandanas (not bananas) tied around my head. I remember the pain and I remember the strange feeling when it lifted. The relief.
I remember when I was 12-years old standing up in my “spot” in gym and being besieged with gold sparkles.
All this kind of stuff was accepted as “normal.” My normal.
It wasn’t until much later in adult hood that strange things began happening with my eyes:
The feeling like I was wearing the wrong eyeglass Rx, convergence difficulties, then the ocular disturbances, the severe vertigo, the stomach migraine (yes, it manifests in MANY ways).
I am sitting here now with a “shimmering scotoma” on the right side. It’s like a gold fluorescent with black zig-zags flashing a million times per second. (NO, this is not a floater)
Then it is like being underwater, like being waterboarded on one side. If I am lucky this will not re-occur today, but the usual brain protocol is for this o come back and haunt me at least one more time.
In thirty minutes it should stop–for now.
The headache doctor’s receptionist who is working on getting the meds is OVERRUN by requests from patients. What does that tell you? There are thousands of people like me multiplied by thousands, seeking relief.
I can make plans and at the last minute, thinking everything is fine, not be fine.
Fingers crossed. I hope this drug helps.
And no, it is not covered by insurance. It is hundreds of dollars/month, as is a machine I rent to shock my ocular brain lobe.
Onward.
I shiver at the thought of an attack while you are driving or doing anything dangerous. How do you manage? Has it ever happened to you?
So sorry you have the terrible ocular episodes. Hope the new med brings relief.

I hope this will work for you… it’s about time, they send all kind of toys in space and still can’t relieve us from migraines. Keeping fingers crossed and sending hugs.
Sue,I hope this works.I very well understand the spells of eye flashing and all you describe, its a weird feeling. I try to just be quiet and usually the spells goes away.I can take a pill for my eye spell it helps.I just cannot believe how I had cafergot meds and bam!it worked and I was told it was off the market…I think it is wrong how everything is going these days, this new pill, is any of that covered by insurance plans…?
I have been busy with buying a house, also today I had the twins love them so.I get bad migraines from nerves and my daughter had a bad one Saturday after looking in two houses for sale. She gets them so bad. Y

Sue, I have had a shimmering Scotoma on two occasions. I know that I was experiencing it from nerves. I only knew the name, because I described it to my brother and he gave me the name for it. I felt like I was almost blind. Not fun! I hope that they give you the new medication and it works like a charm.
I’m wondering if there’s some sort of trial or study you can get into that would cover the cost of this medication. It wouldn’t hurt to ask your doctor if they still are doing trials.
In any case, if it works then there is no price that you can put on it is there?

So sorry that you’re still suffering from those things. I never knew about them when we were in high school together. I thought they were a relatively recent occurrence.
I’ve had only one migraine in my entire life. I don’t envy you! 🤞🤞
