356. NYC Photojournal 2/27/09 The Bronx (da Bronx!) From Faggedaboutit to Orchids
Each of the five New York City Boroughs has a different flavor; where ever we go we make sure we eat. It was Members’ Day for the opening of the Orchid Show at The New York Botanical Garden. The plan was: eat first.
Part 1: Food!
Off we went to our favorite Bronx pizzeria, Coals,
to have Rhode Island style pizza. The crust is very thin and the pizza is grilled. Toppings are fresh and delicious and the feeling is light and healthy. See New York Times review.

After lunch, on the way back to the car,
we spotted this madonna with bird feeder, battered flag, pigeons, barbed wire, sitting outside a house adjacent to a lot full of cars. My husband, son and I,
Photography Family Robinson, began taking photographs. In a few minutes a truck pulled up next to us and asked what we were doing; it seems three people called to say they noticed us taking pictures and truck guys wanted to know what we were up to.
Well it IS da Bronx. You don’t mess there. Got to admit, it’s a cool photo.
Part 2: Flowers
The New York Botanical Garden:
The Orchid Show:Brazilian Modern, designed by Raymond Jungles, a Miami-based landscape architect, whose show design is, “bold, in your face Brazilian modern.”
The orchids were positioned throughout the regular endless, beautiful greenhouse fare. The medley of colors, shapes and sizes infused with the heady fragrances was a sensual treat. I’ve never seen more cameras in one place. Here’s a little sample, but please go see more in my album for the full show.
