A Wonderful, Nostalgic New York City Video
My friend, K., brought this video to my attention and I sat there for almost a half hour glued to it: I had a bad case of nostalgia. I miss the old simple New York City of my childhood, the young ladies in white gloves and dresses, the young men in suits and ties, the Mamie Eisenhower outfits on mothers. This is one of the kitschiest “tours” of New York City I’ve seen. Of course the young man in the horse drawn carriage on a date was smoking–it seems so passeé. The streets that are now so impossible to navigate are relatively empty. And it feels so elegant and safe in its simplicity.
Sit back and enjoy. “Skyline New York 1955.”
Really brings back memories, Sue….I often think how excited our parents must have been, to get their new apartments in the city that they loved so much, and to have it all at their fingertips. Thanks so much for sharing.
Kitsch is comforting, most of the time.
This video brings back many memories – thought I have never been to NY – from my childhood as well, thanks to the numerous movies and documentaries I’ve seen since. Thanks for the share, Sue. Fascinating.
