Antique Love Tokens
Most love token bracelets were made during the period from 1876 through 1900. They are hand engraved and made from a coin that was in circulation. Seated Liberty dimes were plentiful and frequently used. it was easy to engrave as it had a high content of silver. Remember, in “those days” a dime was a lot of money.
These were used as tokens of affection and souvenirs of commemorations of events.
The hollow silver bangle above still has a secure lock. I hung a Seated Liberty dime from the safety chain; 1886 one side, and fancy engraved initials on the other, which are hard to decipher, not due to wear but due to the ornateness. Other engraving: Maggie/1890; MM/1889; May/Walters; Initials/1889; an engraved scene of a lake with pine trees/MEAG-1889; HM/OLLE; scene of a house/Edna; JBE/Seated Dime.
The 2 bracelets worn together are comfortable, look great and make a sweet sound. (They were ebay purchases from my sweet friend “Zelda.”)
Interesting that the charms are just sort of on one side of the bangle rather than all around. Another informative post. Happy Birthday to your mom.

I’ve never heard of these before… Amazing history in something so simple, not just in time, but in the history of love between people. So simply sweet…
