255. CreARTive Sunday: 6/15/08: Dichroic Glass Jewelry Part 3

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 25, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 6, 2012

This is part 3 of the dichroic glass series. Part 1 Part 2   Kroma “by-pass” ring       A modern take on an old idea: dichroic glass charm bracelet I took a vintage charm bracelet and attached a grouping of dichroic glass pendants from Kroma. Each pendant is bezel set and backed, encased in silver.                             14 CommentsChronological Reverse Threaded reply lunarechoes wrote on Jun 14, ’08 Lovely! 252. CreArtive Sunday: Dichroic Glass Jewelry Part 2

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 25, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 6, 2012

Part 1 of this series can be found here. Kroma heart I received from my colleagues for my retirement. They asked what I wanted and I told them exactly. Why not get something that is a known winner? This beautiful modern piece is 1 3/4″ in length including bale, and 9/16″ wide.      This is another Kroma piece; the fine detail in the glass and the silver work are trademarks . This large ring was not produced by Kroma. I found it in a boutique and grabbed it. It is 10/16″ wide and 3/4″ in length. This is not … Continue reading →

236. CreaARTive Sunday: 5/17/08: Collection: Dichroic Glass Jewelry Part 1

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 25, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 6, 2012

I have been collecting dichroic glass jewelry for at least 12 years. It is a real attention getter; whenever I wear it, strangers walk up to me and ask what it is. It has a smooth glass surface and embedded in it are many layers of metallics that diffuse light differently creating a shimmering effect and color change when viewed from different angles. You can read more about it at Laurita’s post here. My first purchases were from the KROMA studio, located in New Mexico, but their beautiful pieces can be found in art shops all over the country. A … Continue reading →

309. Weekend Photo Journal: Part 1. Brooklyn and Queens, NY

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 23, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 15, 2012

New York City hosted hundreds of “open houses” over the weekend. The event was called, “Open House, New York.” One could take advantage of free tours buildings, landmarks, universities, gardens, some of which are normally closed to the public. We decided to visit Pratt Institute, Mr. Souci’s alma mater, (school of architecture) in Brooklyn, NY. There we found new buildings, toured several, and learned about the history of the school which was founded in the 1800’s, visited the incredible library (designed by Tiffany) and the sculpture gardens. Friday 7/17/09 Ashfield, MA Countrypie Pizza By 2:00 pm we were starved and needed something to keep us going. We stumbled upon a pizzeria, embedded in a house and sharing its turf with a hardware store. Good stuff, Seth and Eli! 356. NYC Photojournal 2/27/09 The Bronx (da Bronx!) From Faggedaboutit to Orchids

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 22, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 3, 2012

Each of the five New York City Boroughs has a different flavor; where ever we go we make sure we eat. It was Members’ Day for the opening of the Orchid Show at The New York Botanical Garden. The plan was: eat first. Part 1: Food! Off we went to our favorite Bronx pizzeria, Coals, to have Rhode Island style pizza. The crust is very thin and the pizza is grilled. Toppings are fresh and delicious and the feeling is light and healthy. See New York Times review. Join me! [all photographs are property of Sans Souci; click to enlarge] … Continue reading →

554. Song Saturday Nostalgia: This I Swear is True

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 22, 2012 by Sans SouciMarch 3, 2013

Maybe it’s Winter; the cold calling for a mind thaw. I’ve been in the nostalgia zone. Deep into that zone for a few weeks. Actually that’s good because with all these songs flooding into my consciousness, along comes the synesthesia–the mind movie I talk about on my webpage; I get back into writing. Each time I would search and find the song that poked its way up through my thoughts, it would lead to another. And another. Many of these were playing while I was in my early teens. There’s was nothing, nothing like the feeling of cheek-burning excitement at … Continue reading →

181. On My Nephew’s Bar Mitzvah, and How It “Changed” the World

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 22, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

I had a very strange week, last week, it baffled me and tackled me technologically, it created a low level of subconscious stress, as this weekend was my beloved nephew’s Bar Mitzvah and I had to work out details of my son’s coming home from college and his subsequent return, the clothing issues—the finding of panty hose that would not edge down below my knees, the fear of 5 inch heels that had to go up 3 stone stairs to participate in the ceremony, on and on, all things quotidian. Then my sister called my attention to an avatar of … Continue reading →

398. I found My Guardian Angel

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 22, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

This is a topic I’ve always wondered about. The possibility that there is an angel on my shoulder. Yesterday I got an answer. I’d like to believe it. A friend sent me a link to a blogtalkradio program. The guest on the show was a social worker my friend worked with in a school a few years back, Richard Scheinberg Richard  discusses a subject from his new book, Seeking Soul Mates, Spirit Guides, and Past Lives. He went on to augment his practice in esoteric studies. He specializes in past life regression. This is something I’ve always thought about doing but … Continue reading →

533. The Pornography of Advertising?: Killing us Softly: Jean Kilbourne

“Even Cindy Crawford would like to look like Cindy Crawford.” This morning I received an email which contained a link to the final video here. 556. NYC Photo Journal: Snow More

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 20, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 2, 2013

I thought I would update you on the storm from two days ago. This is how the street looks now. Mind you, I had to call my councilman’s office to report that the snow plow had never come down the street. After last month’s fiasco with snow removal, the Mayor is notified directly. The plow came and cleared a bit of the mess and salted. Of course, when we started to dig out, a lot of the snow ended up back in the street. There’s an ice dam of melt at the curb cut, but I couldn’t break through enough … Continue reading →

300. New York City Photo Journal: Manhattan doin’s: 9/21/08

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 20, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 15, 2012

Sunday, September 21, 2008. We celebrated the first day of Fall in Manhattan. We had theater tickets in hand as we luckily found a parking spot–yes, in Manhattan on a Sunday. To make the city all the more interesting, there was a street fair, and you know what that means; food. And plenty to see and smell. We explored the street fair a little but decided to have lunch in a more quiet nearby area where we could sit and be served. New York City is the Sunday Brunch capital of the world; you’ll find the thousands of restaurants full … Continue reading →

301. Photo journal: checking back on my window view

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 20, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 15, 2012

Yes, it is technically Autumn. We are going to be getting some heavy rain over the next couple of days. I thought the apple tree was dying, but the garden guy says, “there is still life in it.” Big sigh of relief. There is a large branch on the left that will have to come off as well as others here and there. I thought this was “the end,” of my old, old Golden Russet tree, one of the originals left, perhaps the only one, from an orchard that was here maybe 70-80 years ago. The container garden will soon … Continue reading →

511. New York Photo Journal: Food: Harbor Q, The place for barbecue

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 20, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 15, 2012

Ribs. You know you want ’em. Sometimes ya just gotta. When I saw a local abc news “Neighborhood Eats” review of Harbor Q, my reactions was, let me at it and gimme them “Buffalo Soldiers”! Keith Dorman is a Port Washington, Long Island resident who had a yen for meat smokin’ barbecue. He sampled the best in the country and built and opened Harbor Q, right here on Long Island, (just over the city line in Nassau County). We’ve been doing a lot of eating out during our endless kitchen renovation. This was the place to dine tonight by popular … Continue reading →

302. Photo Journal: My NYC Lake

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 20, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 15, 2012

Many people don’t realize that New York City is a city of many neighborhoods spread out among the five boroughs. I live in a “laid-back” area that appears suburban but still has excellent public transit and close proximity to shopping. It’s nice to have the option to walk to everything, and it is also nice to have a lake–yes a lake nearby. It’s 7/10 of a mile around. Great for exercising and meditating. I am intrigued by the ever changing light, reflections, and textures. There’s always a surprise. (click to enlarge each photo) I took my camera and headed for … Continue reading →
