Vintage Etruscan-style jewelry part 2

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

Now you know the story of why I became impassioned with these charms, you know about my friend Irma. And now, I’ll tell you about my friend, Cynthia. I met her when I returned to work after I had my son. She was a teacher in one of the schools I was assigned to. As I greeted her, I saw that she had an “Irma Bracelet.” The universe threw us together. We’ve been close friends for over 20 years. And now some more of my objects d’art. Comments from Yahoo’s parallel universe Cheyanne Everything is beautiful. I especially liked every … Continue reading →

Vintage Etruscan-style Italian silver charms part 1

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

Probably my favorite collection. It Started with a Bracelet dedicated to Irma S. Lewis, who taught me more than I’ll ever realize. See blog  Note: The jewelry discussed here is referred to as “Etruscan.”  In the Victorian period there was a classic revival of ancient styles.  This story is about the Etruscan-style jewelry produced in Italy in the 40’s possibly through the 60’s and may have been made by the Peruzzi company mentioned in the previous CreARTive Sunday blog. Years ago, when I lived in a co-op apartment building in Flushing, Queens, I had a neighbor who was old enough … Continue reading →

What’s Your Sign? Order in Chaos

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

Zodiac themed bracelets. Introducing bubble intaglio charms Order in Chaos…and bubbles (you can click on each picture to see the bracelets greatly enlarged, you will have to scroll across and down) I saw this bracelet on ebay and I was intrigued; it was full, heavy, and chock full of zodiac charms; I bought it and added to it. More is more; after all, it’s the universe and although it is chaotic, there is a beauty and an order to it. I don’t know how many charms I added to this; a dash of colorful enamel, a zodiac bubble—more on that … Continue reading →

Antique Love Tokens

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

Most love token bracelets were made during the period from 1876 through 1900. They are hand engraved and made from a coin that was in circulation. Seated Liberty dimes were plentiful and frequently used. it was easy to engrave as it had a high content of silver. Remember, in “those days” a dime was a lot of money. These were used as tokens of affection and souvenirs of commemorations of events. The hollow silver bangle above still has a secure lock. I hung a Seated Liberty dime from the safety chain; 1886 one side, and fancy engraved initials on the … Continue reading →

‘Twas a Marriage Made in Heaven ‘Til They Couldn’t Pay the Mortgage

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

This is another fun bracelet; it has some very unique charms. It tells a modern day love story; let’s hope the story has a happy ending. The Marriage Manual: 1. It all starts here with the apple. It opens to reveal the famous “original” couple they “swing: out on a hinge to face the world. Swingers, eh? 2. A Stanhope charm. I will do a blog about Stanhopes at another time. Suffice it to say there is a microscopic image in a little lens. Look closely, it’s Queen Liz! Maybe she’s been around since Adam and Eve. (This is not … Continue reading →

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

This is a mix of vintage charms with some new enamels thrown in for color. The details are amazing, it’s hard to believe you are looking at miniature works of art. There are several “mechanical” charms; these open and/or move. The Food “Menu” Starting at upper left: (new charms were made within the last 20 years, vintage were made before the 1970’s) * small ice cream cone with red, white, green and blue crystals, (fairly new); * enamel orange (new) * vintage beer stein, lid opens; * vintage pie; * vintage enamel hot dog with mustard; * enamel peach (new); … Continue reading →

Albertina watch fob chains as bracelets

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

Antique niello pink gold Albertina chain (enamel inlay makes a stripe effect) makes a great necklace for an antique Italian pendant. You may click to enlarge. Pieces can be found in photo albums The portrait framed in silver, is painted on ivory. Here’s another idea for an unusual bracelet. Many years ago Albert chains were used by men for their pocket watches. They would suspend the watch from a fob and it often had charms hanging from it as well. Examples of some interesting English fob charms I have collected: Women had Albertina chains. Like a man’s Albert chain, these … Continue reading →

Stanhopes

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 8, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

Stanhopes, or ‘peeps’, are miniature microphotographic lenses incorporated in many novelty collectables produced from the mid-19th century onwards. Three of my Stanhopes:(You saw my heart Stanhope on my marriage bracelet) camera: souvenir drawings/photos of Niagara Falls, Buffalo; Celluloid binoculars, ¾” early century, double lens, souvenir drawings/photos of Paris views metal binoculars, ½” ca. 1880’s. I bought this because I was so taken by the silliness of it. I suppose this was a gentleman’s version of a portable Playboy Magazine. There is a photo of 3 naked dames within. Well they were within;they made a run for it. I paid a … Continue reading →
