Nurture Nature: Garden Updates
- Butterflies
The 7th butterfly began emerging, spontaneously and the liquid soup he was part of spilled out onto the pot.
What was happening?
- The very large #7 that had hung from the side of the pot started to emerge: the legs were visible
- and then an antenna –or possibly proboscis. But that was all, nothing more by the next morning.
- I said good-bye to #7 outside and removed him. He was a huge caterpillar and I thought he might have been a female.
- There were still two pupae on sticks in the pot. Keeping them in the house doesn’t let them accurately sense the weather. But, they were now black and likely dead.
- The butterfly house is now empty.
- Because we never know about Black Eastern Swallowtails, I am allowing them to remain outside and let nature take whatever course.
2. Cactus
There is Thanksgiving cactus, Christmas cactus and even Easter cactus; this guy thinks he’s a Halloween cactus.
3. Snails
Sheldon and Swirl try to take the subway.
- All in a days work …
- Hey, Sheldon! Hey, Swirl!
- So what’s new? Got a new bed of lettuce!
- Dang, train’s late again!
- Excuse me!
- Um, excuse me, I just need to …
- You’re standing on my (one) foot
- Oof, argh!
- Whew. Train still too crowded to get on.
- See you tomorrow.
These are so cool
Oh cool! How do you care for your Christmas cactus? Do I need to do anything special to get it to bloom?
