Pissed Consumer Part 2. A Change On The Verizon
Part 1 begins here.
I may not have won a battle or a war, but because I registered a complaint with the New York State Public Service Commission yesterday, I got a call-back from Ms. Lee of the Verizon Corporate Office. She had a record of everyone I dealt with on the phone yesterday and I reiterated about how close I came to calling Time Warner cable and jumping ship. (Frying pan to frying pan.) The way I see it, I spend $3-4,000 annually on Verizon’s services and the sudden $3/mo. surcharge for keeping my number unlisted is nothing short of nickel and diming.
So I fired off a few rounds and stated:
- that I objected to the rules changing in mid-game about being charged for an unlisted number; ( I was able to get the fee waived for a year)
- that copper wired phones are worth keeping as they don’t go down if the power goes out;
- that Verizon discriminates against those of us who have a phone line or even a second phone line on copper as we are not able to take advantage of special promotions because-
- Verizon won’t bundle a bill with a FI-OS line and a copper line;
- that I read in the New York Times business section that Verizon admits to not wanting to deal with copper lines
And Ms. Lee verified and knew exactly what I was talking about but she is beholden to the “guy above” her and that’s that.
I may not have gotten all that I wanted from Verizon as a result of my complaints but I had my fifteen minutes of standing up to Goliath and calling a huge corporation on some practices.
You never know when a person with a sling shot can elicit change.
