Pissed Consumer: Procter & Gamble Makes Pet Food That’s Not 99/44% Pure
I am beginning to feel that a day doesn’t go by when I don’t have to waste time running after some irresponsible corporation. My ongoing issue with Verizon has not been resolved so why not add to the fun?
Little did I know when I purchased my first bag of Evo dry, grain-free food that it was produced by a subsidiary of Procter & Gamble, which will, by the way, always remind me of Ivory soap … which was “99/44% pure.” Pure what?
Here I can tell you that my Evo didn’t follow behind the Ivory soap reputation. By sheer coincidence I had found that my bag (about 6.6 pounds @$24.00) had been recalled. Had I not gone into a pet food store to buy a back up bag I would not have known. I purchased this product initially because it is “grain-free” and I am convinced that the corn meal and other crap now put in pet food has contributed to an increase in diabetes in pets. I know. I have one. Don’t expect your doggie or kitty to maintain weight and health if they are being fed pig food … with gmo’s.
Anyway, I had called the company after I found that the bag I had was on the recall list. Actually I had two bags. They sent me a letter of apology and two coupons to ease the pain. I had opened a new bag in the meantime which was not at the time on the recall list. Yesterday I went back to the pet food store to redeem a coupon and found that the owner was advised of another recall (turns out to be a salmonella issue again) and would no longer be carrying the product.
After a phone call I had to dump the bag for the third time, cut out the expiration date and UPC, attach it to a letter that included the original letter from Natura (with the stapled, never removed coupons they sent me last month for the other two recalled bags) and they will go out in the mail tomorrow.
I also use the canned food which always felt was very good and luckily there doesn’t appear to be any issue … as of yet.
But here’s the rub: It is by luck, by pure serendipity that I found out about these recalls. Think about it: if you buy a car for instance, your info is on file and you are contacted of a recall or safety issue. There is nothing like that for food or pet supplies unless you happen to catch an announcement on the media. I never heard anything on the media about this recall. And what can the result be: a sick or dead pet.
I propose an app and if there is a brilliant inventor out there, listen up: The app for computer or smart phone would allow you to punch in the names of the pet food you use. The app would scan through the data base regularly and alert you if any of the products you list come up for recall.
Please share the royalties with me. Or at least a few bags of uncontaminated food.
Procter & Gamble: stick to soap.
Going off to twitter this now…let’s see who is listening.
