11-24-12: The Effects of Television on Kittens

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on November 25, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 25, 2012

They listened to NPR…they watched a little television for the first time…then football. Here they are practicing their moves. This is what kittens do when they aren’t in a fur pile napping and looking innocent; they wreck their cage. I cleaned it 6 times so far today. They just collapsed into 4 piles. I am ready to take a nap. 11-24-12: Post Ruckus This is what kittens look like after they go bonkers for an hour. Have no fear: the cycle will repeat!

Getting the hang of medicating

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on November 19, 2012 by Sans SouciDecember 5, 2012

11/17/12: Getting the hang of medicating. The big guy on the end, Teddy, is a scared mush. I am settling in with a routine: gloves go on. Water dish comes out, litter pan comes out and is cleaned. Cats come out one by one and sit in a pan wrapped in little towels. They are bravely taking their medicine. get a dab on the nose, anti-fungal massaged in, placed in triage: the carrier. Beds come out and towel liners are washed. Newspaper liner comes out, cage tray is swept and disinfected. Newspaper liner is replaced: they like The New York … Continue reading →

They’re back from trapper Dave

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on November 16, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 16, 2012

I just finished feeding my cats and the outside guys. Came up to give the babies their meds. Well, that was a trip. What a system of juggling and glove wearing. Finally got them fed, it’s 2 hours since I am up. Their cage is a mess again, the water keeps getting spilled. But I did what I needed to do. And then I got one of those scintillating scotoma visual migraines…going on 10 minutes… and I have just logged it. Can barely see.

11-15-12: On kittens, cuteness and ringworm: what wins?

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on November 16, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 16, 2012

The kittens have returned: they are bigger and heavier and the cage is getting cramped. They now prefer to sleep two to a bed. That doesn’t give any room for water, food and the litter pan.I feel like I am designing a New York studio apartment. We need a loft. They are in their cage lulled to sleep by Mahler. I am assuming they still have some ringworm (which can last for months) and I am being hypervigilant with sprays and gloves and chlorox spray and a huge bottle of Purell. The transition back to a new place and the … Continue reading →

The Fifth Kitten

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 28, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

Baffled and sad… I just went through the first kitty album that I made on October 10. There was a 5th kitten, black and white. I never saw all five together so I assumed there were four. I didn’t see the little guy since the mother moved the babies to my neighbor’s shed. He wasn’t in any subsequent photos. I wonder if he is still alive. The kittens are at trapper Dave’s. One has ringworm and all need to be treated and watched, so that’s where they will be for a while. I had them for such a short time … Continue reading →

The Great Kitten Rescue

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 27, 2012 by Sans SouciDecember 5, 2012

These feisty little things have been cavorting in my yard, my neighbor’s yard, living in her shed with their mom and visiting my feeding station at whim. They just go right through the fence! David managed to trap the first three babies at one time in a large trap. My neighbor and I watched in disbelief. This is stressful! He used a flea comb and found a few visitors so off to the bathroom they went for a flea bath in the sink. We bundled them up and dried them and deposited them in the large cage David so nicely lent … Continue reading →

423. Friday Fixations: On mothers, cats, books, and Loretta Young

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 22, 2012 by Sans SouciJuly 21, 2016

Some of the great people I am connected to have asked how things are going, so here is a synopsis. And a warm thank you to my Multiply mavens who have been kind and generous in comments and personal messages. I may never meet you in person, but your spirits are real and uplifting. Some thoughts: Mom: I took out this photo and thought: Would this lovely young woman ever imagine whether she would live to be ninety-one years of age? She is now as good as ever, no live-in help. Loves her new place in the assisted living. I … Continue reading →

546. The Nine Lives Times: on the death of a cat and the art of miscommunication

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 19, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

I. I am updating previous blog where I announced that the beloved little cat stray cat who adopted me, passed away while at the vet sometime between Monday and Tuesday of last week. A short recap: This little guy who we shall lovingly call Little Arnold Schwartz Katz fell ill within the last month; chances are he was attacked by the two orange boys, Sorbet and Sorbetto.(who came to his feeding station and ate his food.) Arnold got an eye infection, his routine changed, he was functioning but not at full speed. But he continued to eat, albeit not as … Continue reading →

28. The Mystery of the Disappearing Internet Signal

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

Dear Bravehearts in the Land of Blog. Absolve me from guilt. I have not yet been blogging a month and hope you have been leaving my pages with postive thoughts and feelings, enough to hopefully bring you back. There’s the rub. Pressure. I tell myself that I do not have to post everyday, yet something calls me back to the keyboard, and I can’t leave. I am trying not to be too intense everyday; I easily fall into that. Then I ask myself, “who am I writing for?” To make me happy or other people happy–or both. Maybe I should … Continue reading →

Part 10a On a Formerly Feral Feline Family and the C Word

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 27, 2023

original post 4/7/07/Yahoo Last night at a Passover seder, I was greeted by a dog. It came bounding down the hallway of the apartment building, barking, bonking, raising one helluva reverberating racket. I had made its acquaintance last year, and most likely it didn’t remember me; barking, bonking and raising one helluva racket is what dogs do. All night long, I thought my hostess’s father was playing footsie with me, but it turned out to be the dog. The dog, kept time with its tail knocking against the table as we read the Haggadah. The cat, on the other hand, … Continue reading →
