187. CreARTive Sunday: 3/16/08: Antique Love Token Bracelets

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 19, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 7, 2012

Most love token bracelets were made during the period from 1876 through 1900. They are hand engraved and made from a coin that was in circulation. Seated Liberty dimes were plentiful and frequently used. it was easy to engrave as it had a high content of silver. Remember, in “those days” a dime was a lot of money. These were used as tokens of affection and souvenirs of commemorations of events. Click photos to enlarge. The hollow silver bangle above still has a secure lock. I hung a Seated Liberty dime from the safety chain; 1886 one side, and fancy … Continue reading →

199. CreARTive Sunday: Italy: Vintage & Antique Travel Bracelets (my work)

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 19, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 7, 2012

After collecting charms for just a bit my consciousness was awakened to travel charms. I made most of my purchases through ebay where one can find sellers from all over the world. I joined a group of charm collectors on ebay who collect vintage charms. The group is run by the most knowledgable and brilliant woman, Joan Munkasci. (Joan is the daughter of the late Martin Munkasci, the world famous fashion photographer.) We would post our creations and “ooh and ahhh” over each other’s collections; Joan’s collections awakened me to travel charms. I have purchased a number of charms from … Continue reading →

168. CreARTive Sunday: Vintage charms and charm bracelet: Bare Naked Ladies and Microphotography

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 19, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 8, 2012

A microphotograph in a Stanhope charm might look like this. Stanhopes, or ‘peeps’, are miniature microphotographic lenses incorporated in many novelty collectables produced from the mid-19th century onwards.   Stanhopes can be found in a range of small collectables, and exist in several main collectors’ categories. To view the hidden image, look for a small glass “bead” in a knob or handle of the object, and hold this close to the eye, focused on a light source. Stanhopes are often found in antique novelties made of bone, but are more difficult to spot in dark-coloured objects e.g. carved wood, bog … Continue reading →

14. Charmed. I’m Sure

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciApril 24, 2018

originally posted 4/12/07 Bloggers and Bloggettes; This morning as I was brushing my teeth my day’s idea came to me. I write in many different forms. One is in silver. This is my story. One day in the early 1950’s, my parents took me on a subway ride to the Bronx (one of the 5 “boroughs of New York City: Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan are the five boroughs and are largely residential.”) Part of the train ride is elevated and it is a kick for a young child to kneel backwards in her seat and look … Continue reading →

Vintage Charm Bracelets:All my designs and creations:The heart series

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 7, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 23, 2015

The “Am I blue?” bracelet is a mix of enameled and non-enameled and stone inlay hearts in shades of blue. The bracelet itself is probably from the 1970’s, but the woven mesh and silver work goes well with the charms. Many of the charms are engraved: Ruby, C.T., Dot, B.M., J/r, M.M., Maurice, M.C. Papa, Sarah. The engraving style varies and indicates the age of the piece. The second piece, “Hearts and Flowers” is unique in that the 1970’s chain is double. The charms are a mélange of enamel and non-enamel, and stone inlay, from different time periods. The little … Continue reading →

146 b. How and why: The story behind the vintage ice cream wagon charm: Why I write in silver

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on September 23, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 8, 2012

Memories translate to words and charms.           And here is why. See the little ice cream cart? I’ll take you on a journey to 1959.   8 CommentsChronological Reverse Threaded reply aladybug wrote on Jan 27, ’08, edited on Jan 27, ’08 I don’t see the ice cream cart… I see pans, one open, one closed, then something else I can’t identify, then a woman in an exercise machine (perhaps just my perception?), then a round object, a hot dog, and then… something else I can’t identify either… Am I crazy? reply aladybug wrote on Jan … Continue reading →
