Steller Story Series: A Charmed Life: Book 8: Food!

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on February 4, 2019 by Sans SouciFebruary 4, 2019

I have been photographing—and re-photographing my collection and designs; so this is a multi-faceted project: one project, the collecting, then the designing, begat another; the photography and presentation. Here is a link to the on-line presentation on Steller. If you are so inclined, download the Steller app. It is lovely the way the pages “turn.” The view is especially impressive on a large screen, as on a tablet. Feel free to comment!       Steller Link: Book 8

Need A Laugh?

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on June 18, 2018 by Sans SouciJune 18, 2018

Hello, all, and a happy Monday to you. I have been missing in action, I apologize! Into the second week of a photography workshop I am giving (and loving it). A friend directed me to the following Saturday Night Live segment. I think you will enjoy this. Maybe I should get an Alexa for my mother, and rename it Moishe. I just need the “uh huh, uh huh, uh huh factor, and the ability to turn down the thermostat when the heat is on—in JUNE!

1. From the Nipplemania Newsletter to The Eyeball Update: Gray Matter, Matters

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on July 20, 2016 by Sans SouciJanuary 9, 2017

They’re after me! every Pokémon creature that exists is hiding out in my head.     In October 2004, in an attempt to maintain my sanity when it was discovered that I had breast cancer, I started writing my NIPPLEMANIA Newsletter. (The series is within this blog, Index here) For about five years now I have been experiencing strange visual disturbances and as prolific and annoying as they are they resolve within a half hour, usually painless but downright annoying,  As of last Thursday evening the usual game changed and another kind of visual stuff began that never resolved.  THIS … Continue reading →

Be Happy, Or At Least Pretend To Be

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on December 5, 2014 by Sans SouciOctober 12, 2019

Years ago when I was on a teaching sabbatical I was walking through Manhattan to a class. I remember crossing a street near The New School. It was around noon. I was wearing a gorgeous sweater I made under a red coat. It was early Winter, somewhat cloudy and I remember the chill. It was about twenty-eight years ago. I was pregnant with my son. A young man approached me and said something like, “you look happy, would you like to get a cup of coffee?” He likely approached me because I was smiling. I often smile to myself when … Continue reading →

NYC Photo Journal: From 1887 to Modern Times

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on September 23, 2014 by Sans SouciFebruary 20, 2015

Saturday, September 20, 2014   but …   eventually I was at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, for a luncheon, a celebration of alumni and tours of buildings. There had been a terrible fire in a building and the subsequent reconstruction of it was wonderful. A few photos. The fun and interesting thing about this well-renown institution of art and architecture that was founded in 1887, is that a myriad of stray cats live in the boiler room. The cats are cared for, fed, taken to the vet, and adored by students and faculty members, alike. They roam the … Continue reading →

Mercury in Retrograde: Think Before You Hit “Send”

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on July 1, 2013 by Sans SouciJuly 1, 2013

Here’s a good one. We are in a retrograde: when this happens, with >>> Mercury, <<<< communication gets bollixed. Means of communication get wonky. Come to think of it, I still do not have my phone issues resolved with Verizon. Sometimes communication gets really tangled, misconstrued, lost. Other times things that have gone unresolved pop-up and get closure. This was one heckuva pop-up! But there is no closure… My nephew received an iPhone for his High School graduation and while he was in Florida with his folks recently, visiting grandma, (the very grandma who will be moving back to New … Continue reading →

430. Sans Souci’s Wildlife Refuge: Slugs on the rugs, grackles, and talking cats…***Little Arnold Update…

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 14, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

. Winter is coming on fast here in New York City. It’s been many years since I remember these kind of temperatures and rain at this time of year. I hauled in plants last week that I usually don’t bring in until the beginning of November, and made my annual mess in the kitchen sink, cleaning them up and then trying to find places for them inside. I’ve been worried about Little Arnold. The weather here is not Octoberish—in fact, it feels more like NYC Decemberish. Every time I open the door, there is Little Arnold. Every time my neighbors … Continue reading →

83. Well, That Stinks!

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

I was ready to sit down and start my blog; I knew what I was going to write about and I was preparing my accoutrements—music and visuals, when I clicked on Photoshop; it started to load, and then—nothing. I repeated the steps. Nothing. I got error messages indicating that Microsoft would inform me as soon as a solution to the problem was found. Not good enough. The program worked yesterday, and it was hiccupping as it was loading fonts. I tried to install the program again and was unable to. Well, that stinks! The computer is 5 months old and Vista, the … Continue reading →

28. The Mystery of the Disappearing Internet Signal

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

Dear Bravehearts in the Land of Blog. Absolve me from guilt. I have not yet been blogging a month and hope you have been leaving my pages with postive thoughts and feelings, enough to hopefully bring you back. There’s the rub. Pressure. I tell myself that I do not have to post everyday, yet something calls me back to the keyboard, and I can’t leave. I am trying not to be too intense everyday; I easily fall into that. Then I ask myself, “who am I writing for?” To make me happy or other people happy–or both. Maybe I should … Continue reading →

31. Age of Love

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

For a number of Monday nights I have been glued to my television set for an hour watching a pop program, “Age of Love,” which proposes an interesting question. When it comes to couples, does age really matter? The Bachelor: Mark, an Aussie hunk, pro tennis player. Age: 30. The Women: A gorgeous bunch: Age: 40’s. Mark meets the women in their 40’s and is amazed by their beauty, intelligence, spunk, sense of fun, humor and adventure. He has to eliminate one each week and will be left with his dream date/mate. Things get complicated. More Women: A gorgeous bunch: … Continue reading →

Part 10a On a Formerly Feral Feline Family and the C Word

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 27, 2023

original post 4/7/07/Yahoo Last night at a Passover seder, I was greeted by a dog. It came bounding down the hallway of the apartment building, barking, bonking, raising one helluva reverberating racket. I had made its acquaintance last year, and most likely it didn’t remember me; barking, bonking and raising one helluva racket is what dogs do. All night long, I thought my hostess’s father was playing footsie with me, but it turned out to be the dog. The dog, kept time with its tail knocking against the table as we read the Haggadah. The cat, on the other hand, … Continue reading →

19. The Kavorka: either you have it or you don’t

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 13, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 2, 2012

As an admirer of the Seinfeld series, I have watched each episode over and over again; I am never bored. Seinfeld’s genius lies in his ability to view human nature and reflect it, with all its silliness and inadequacies, through the use of a marvelous ensemble cast. Seinfeld manages to weave several mini-themes throughout each main theme, which can best be described as a game of trivial pursuit. But it fascinates us because we all can see ourselves playing out the same ridiculous situations, or perhaps we just like to laugh along—at ourselves. As I was eating dinner this evening, … Continue reading →

50. Poetry: The Light Side: Married life

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on September 24, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 3, 2012

Rob and Sue Inc. Well blogerinas and blogerinos, today is another special day. Yesterday was my 2 month blogaversary (as Kari would appropriately call it) and today, well, it was 31 years ago that your Sans Souci married Mr. Sans Souci. It’s a day of celebration and gratitude. Relationships ain’t easy and marriage certainly isn’t either, but if a couple can last and not kill eachother, that’s a good sign. And if they produce a good kid, it’s even better. We did. And the good kid goes to a good school that requires good money, and Mr., who is rightfully … Continue reading →

5. Poetry: Birthing at Bocuse

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on September 23, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 3, 2012

My panic attack in a 5-star restaurant in Lyons.original post 4/13/07 ART&Poetry by author Before our son was born, and because we were teachers and had the time, my husband and I traveled extensively through Europe. Nine summers. I could say, “filler-up” in French,Portuguese, Italian, German, Spanish; but don’t ask me to now. That part of my brain has become a gray viscous puddle. As much as I enjoyed my travels through France, I was always under stress. I studied French for eight years, read the classics, blah, blah, or as Seinfeld would say, “yadda, yadda, yadda,” I would drag old … Continue reading →

29. Are you an inny or an outty?

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 7, 2013

original post 5/4/07 I’ve been blogging a little more than a month and have made some observations about people’s blogs and personalities. They are like belly buttons: some are innies and some are outties. I am usually an inny.  I am using my blog to explore the  world through my reactions to it, mainly through artistic expression. Rather than post a political or social essay, I gravitate to commentary through a poetic or photographic reaction in order to make my statement. Somehow the abstract is easier for me. I react to stimuli within. I am more of a filter.   … Continue reading →
