Beyond the Visible: How We Are Connected: By Our Plastic Parts

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on April 13, 2021 by Sans SouciApril 13, 2021

So this is what happened on Sunday morning: I was excited! Though the day was gray and the weather not conducive to the great outdoors, my new Cuisinart arrived the day before and I decided that I would try to “make something,” If you recall, my machine, purchased with Robert, one Spring day in 1981, from Zabar’s and taken home on the subway, decided to bite the bread crumb. Though the iron workhorse of a 40-year old motor was still fine, it was the no-longer-made plastic parts that the blades were attached to, the stems, that just broke apart, … Continue reading →

2c. Garden: Flowers, Bugs & Butterflies, 2020: Pupae to Transformation

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on July 20, 2020 by Sans SouciAugust 31, 2020

At this stage, the caterpillar would begin the next cycle on an outdoor plant. It would be prey to birds and insects and would be subject to the weather. Many do not make it to the next cycle. Some don’t even make it under our protection, but so far this season, we have made a heroic effort. We constructed a “tree”: We put twigs in a flower pot and place the caterpillar that is ready to begin its transformation here. They wander around the pot and the twigs, sometimes for hours until they find their final resting place as a … Continue reading →

Nurture Nature: The Butterfly Project 2019: Part 2: Fat “Cats …”

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 3, 2019 by Sans SouciSeptember 1, 2020

What you witnessed in the previous blog post was the hatching of little egg gems and the morphing into tiny barely visible creatures, which, when fed well, grew and grew into chubby green multi-legged hungry guys, with black, white and yellow markings. In short, it was amazing. Life is a series of transitions and growth: Caterpillars are programmed to transition and they adapt to each stage so well, relying on innate messages to move on with their lives. We watched this occur with eight caterpillars. The eighth one was rescued after we explained to our neighbor that it was a … Continue reading →

Sex and Power. Don’t Blame The Victim

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 4, 2018 by Sans SouciJanuary 9, 2019

Folks, we are living in strange times. Actually, all times have been strange since the very beginning, but the fact that we are living in these times make this our strange reality. Let me take you back to the 1960s. I graduated from high school in 1966. The times they were a-changing. It was about twenty short years since a horrific war. Some of us went home after school to a Betty Crocker existence. Some went home to an empty house and wore keys on strings around our necks because our mothers had to work. Some of us went on … Continue reading →

Saturday Rant: Something is Rotten in the State of …

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on March 18, 2017 by Sans SouciMarch 19, 2017

Brazil’s Largest Food Companies Raided in Tainted Meat Scandal Read about it here.     We are all connected… As the world turns. Should we be surprised by corruption in the Brazilian meat-packing industry? We’ve seen it here ourselves many years ago when Upton Sinclair’s book revealed the industry’s atrocities and shocked us into new federal food safety laws. The sad thing is that the tainted meat in Brazil was destined to be the lunches of school children. But, take a look…China and their scandals, some of which include lead paint in toys, melamine poisoned milk and baby formula… … Continue reading →
