Steller Story Series: A Charmed Life: Book 3/Bubbles, Globes, Intaglios

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on January 31, 2019 by Sans SouciFebruary 1, 2019

I have been photographing—and re-photographing my collection and designs; so this is a multi-faceted project: one project, the collecting, then the designing, begat another; the photography and presentation. Here is a link to the on-line presentation on Steller. If you are so inclined, download the Steller app. It is lovely the way the pages “turn.” The view is especially impressive on a large screen, as on a tablet. Feel free to comment! On Passion

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on June 8, 2018 by Sans SouciJune 8, 2018

I am a member of an on-line group via facebook where the members, who live all over the world, have studied iPhone Photography. We have decided to carry on. In doing so, we work in teams and bring a monthly workshop to the group. I volunteered and in January began thinking about what I wanted to do. The group is largely based on group validations, some constructive criticism, and ego. We all want to be good, we all want to be recognized, but when learning a craft, there is more. We have to explore those who have come before … Continue reading →

132. Mother-Daughter Journey: Birthday

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on March 24, 2018 by Sans SouciApril 17, 2018

For my workshop … So many, if not most of my photos are of portraits/street; I didn’t want to be redundant and there was not much opportunity to get out. But, my mother’s birthday was coming on the 16th and I was hoping to have and create a memento of the day. She is not an easy subject; very much self involved with her appearance, cringed at the selfie I attempted with her, and eventually insisted on her “pose” which she said “they” taught her to do. Don’t ever argue with my mom. She knows everything.   So I snapped … Continue reading →

112: Mother-Daughter Journey: Diversion

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on December 25, 2017 by Sans SouciDecember 31, 2017

What better thing to do on Christmas day? A blog, of course. A Merry Christmas to all! As I was drinking my coffee this morning I was thinking of writing about some of my diversions. You see, when one is under stress, one needs diversions. Those of us who are “creative” can escape for a while into our own heads while the world around us spins. I know the spin well: it leads to vertigo, anxiety, migraines. I am learning to hold in less, speak up more and live in the moment. Sometimes. One of my biggest fears is the … Continue reading →

NYC Photo Journal: A Visit To My Alma Mater, CCNY, “The Poor Man’s Harvard”

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on October 21, 2017 by Sans SouciOctober 21, 2017

Looking across Convent Avenue towards Shepard Hall A visit during Open House New York (OHNY) (Alma Mater ) CCNY. Harlem, NYC https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/ https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/about/campusmap https://www.pointsmap.com/ccny/ I hadn’t been back since graduation in 1969. It is a very changed place. My observation: The North Campus has been gussied up and is shining. There was no Raymond the Pretzel Man. There is a fleet of vans poised to shuttle the masses from north to south: No running like a maniac for half a mile. The admin building is still standing. Remember how in the late ’60s we’d go in to pay the … Continue reading →

92: Mother-Daughter Journey: Finding Your Mother

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on April 30, 2017 by Sans SouciMay 1, 2017

Taken at The Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY   As you know, I have been blogging about my mother for a number of years. In over ninety posts I have spoken about our relationship, the aging-journey, the observations and most of all my fears, perhaps selfish, as I internalize what I see and feel about my mother and her slow departure: she is now ninety-nine. I don’t want to become my mother. But, I had another “mother” and I miss her: she was my colleague, Sylvia. Sylvia was the school psychologist on our three-person team who was the queen of evaluations. … Continue reading →

88. Mother-Daughter Journey: The Fearless Girl Won…Picking Through The Rubble

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on April 5, 2017 by Sans SouciApril 12, 2017

A month has passed since I began tackling issue after issue. I spent full days on the phone trying to sort out a never-ending pile of documents that made little sense. I made calls that were never returned…well, actually, one woman I had been calling got back to me more than two weeks later. In the previous post I listed what was happening. The underlying problem is that one can’t get through to people, and that the people one wants, if not needs to get though to conveniently makes themselves unavailable. I have observed this over and over again. PhotoArt: … Continue reading →

Finding a New Home on Steller Stories

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on July 14, 2016 by Sans SouciJanuary 9, 2017

Holy Makerel! There are times I feel like a fish out of water. Though I post to Instagram and EyeEm, it always feels like there is something missing: Words. My new “home” is Steller where words and photos augment one another. I have begun to post there. My first, trial post was on cooking: My latest is on New York City. Within a short time I received a “LIKE” from the site, and an email: “Congratulations! Your story now has over 2,700 page views 76% Web 24% App Your story is off to a great start! Part 85. Mother-Daughter Journey: In the Mind of the Aged

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on July 14, 2016 by Sans SouciMarch 12, 2017

In The Mind Of The Aged A seven-layer cake of images ©SusanKalish   The current “module” of my photography course is “family.” It is being taught by a perky, bright young woman from The Twin Cities who is an excellent iPhone photographer having come from the creative field. She has kids who are her immediate subjects and her work is awesome. I have no little kids, no grandkids, but those who are around me are in a much more poignant condition. They have handicapping conditions, if one considers aging a handicap. And both have mobility issues. I will concentrate on … Continue reading →

NYC Photo Journal: Street Photography Module

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 21, 2016 by Sans SouciJanuary 9, 2017

7th and 57th Basically anything “out there” is street photography. Always my favorite. I have achieved the ability to “shoot from the hip” (without looking), shooting with my phone looking totally innocuous. Try me. The subway, NYC Nassau County, Long Island     The Neue Gallerie, 5th Avenue at 86th Street     Upper East Side, Manhattan editing process: the front of my car is removed, the items removed from subject’s hand, umbrella handle extended down, street cleaned, filters added. 59th Street Bridge (Ed Koch Bridge) into Manhattan   Buildings, Reflections, More   Driving by a busy street in Manhattan, … Continue reading →
