There are a couple of things going on so I will fill you in and perhaps you will find some information meaningful and pertinent for you or someone you know. In my quest to obliterate my migraines I have learned a good deal: they are not just headaches. They are unjust headaches which can manifest as: head pain (which, luckily I don’t deal with often and my lifelong headaches, since childhood, have diminished over the years from … Continue reading →
Hello, all, and a happy Monday to you. I have been missing in action, I apologize! Into the second week of a photography workshop I am giving (and loving it). A friend directed me to the following Saturday Night Live segment. I think you will enjoy this. Maybe I should get an Alexa for my mother, and rename it Moishe. I just need the “uh huh, uh huh, uh huh factor, and the ability to turn down the thermostat when the heat is on—in JUNE!

(see video at 10:42) Call it post-election-funk, or disbelief each time I read the newspaper at the state of this world. I do believe we are going through a strange period in history and I do believe that even knowing and understanding history is not changing anything in the present. So, I pack my mental bags and leave to my sci-fi fantasy world which includes: Westworld, Orphan Black, Game … Continue reading →

As for movies; I loved Learning to Drive, I liked 99 Homes, saw a few plays at MTC (Manhattan Theater … Continue reading →
Suicide Saturday by Hippo Campus I heard this group of young kids from Minnesota while driving and listening to WFUV, New York’s very cool Indie-oriented station which is a member of National Public Radio. The sound just stuck with me. Everything about. These kids are going places.

My past, my students. Teachers will understand, teachers of the deaf will understand better. I came across an article in today’s The New York Times. In the 1980’s I taught in a program for the deaf at The High School of Fashion Industries in Manhattan. I recognized faces in this article. Faces of former students who at that time were learning a trade along with academics. At graduation they were 21 years old. I was in my 30’s. I see at least one of my former students in a photo of the choir and the video. The woman in the … Continue reading →

I was a High School student at the time, and the 1964 World’s Fair, housed in Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, was the thrill of every visitor. The fair’s theme was “Peace Through Understanding,” its icon was a 12-story steel model of the Earth called the “Unisphere,” and it ran for two six-month seasons, April 22 – October 18, 1964 and April 21 – October 17, 1965. Admission price for adults (13 and older) … Continue reading →
I thank my friend Joyce, who was the source of the following two articles, which moved me in different ways. The first is the story of bagel making in New York City. If you are from NYC–especially Brooklyn, you’re gonna LOVE this. If you are not from NYC, you’ll get an education. This is what real bagels are all about: The boil>bake process with NYC WATER. The bagel originated in POLAND and is considered to have Jewish roots. The Wiki page on bagels is fairly good. I hope that left you sated and happy. … Continue reading →
