The Great Kitten Rescue
These feisty little things have been cavorting in my yard, my neighbor’s yard, living in her shed with their mom and visiting my feeding station at whim. They just go right through the fence!
David managed to trap the first three babies at one time in a large trap. My neighbor and I watched in disbelief. This is stressful! He used a flea comb and found a few visitors so off to the bathroom they went for a flea bath in the sink. We bundled them up and dried them and deposited them in the large cage David so nicely lent me. They were exhausted. David was more exhausted!
The poor mother cat was starving and waiting outside the back looking in with the last little guy. We kept them hungry.
Snap! Number four was in the kitten trap and took a while to calm down. He got a bath and was put to bed with his siblings; now they are all together. Poor mama!
I fed her. Not a peep out of her and nary a sound out of the babies. I wonder what she thinks…she is a kitten herself and has had two litters!I have three rescues of my own. Mother cats are very special. I am thinking of taking her after she is trapped and spayed. They are so gracious and humble. Nicer than many people I know. All is well. And it is raining out! Great timing! Big relief!
So why am I so itchy??!!
The big kitten cage is in my studio, so I am sitting here with a huge cage next to me with a sheet over it and 3 huddled kitties in a shoebox…crunch, crunch, the little calico is eating all the kittie kibble. they actually make crunchies for baby cats.
Everyone is very comfortable. They used the litter pan immediately–aren’t cats something? I am using clay litter as the clumping kind is unhealthy, as I’ve read. They eat, sleep in a pile, and are getting accustomed to being handled. My neighbor comes in and we croon to them like a couple of nuts, taking turns holding them. We got our first purrs this afternoon
Today I :
fed 3 inside cats 3x
2 outside cats 2x
4 baby cats 3x
I changed the cage paper 3x
the water 4x
the towels in the little bed 2x
cleaned 3 big litterboxes;
I small litter box, 4X;OY VAY I am tired…
3 babies are sleeping and one is sitting in the litter box with litter on his face.
Maybe I’ll just go into the cage and sleep with them.
They are so cute! I hope you can find them a good home.
