That Was Spinal Tap: This Is Brain Shunt
The last we spoke we had learned via a spinal tap that the removal of some cerebral spinal fluid caused a notable improvement in walk and gait. So on to the neurosurgeon, a brilliant young man and assistant professor whose specialty is brain tumors. Thankfully, that is not what we are contending with, however, I know of two people who are making progress in dealing with tumors of different types at this very hospital. It seems to be THE PLACE for New Yorkers to get cutting edge medical care.
In the middle of the month, surgery to install a brain shunt was planned, and it took place on Wednesday the 28th, was deemed to be “successful” if not a “perfect job” by the surgeon.
Husband was subsequently released the next day, yesterday, was well-oriented to the environment and comfortable walking. Feels his balance has improved. We won’t know for a couple of weeks how different things will be until the shunt “really kicks in.” It might need calibration.
Science and medicine are amazing.
And now for some levity.
I know about falling, when I FELL I thought what is going on,so its awful, second time doing yard work,I hit my head and passed out….I didn’t do anything but got up went to my back deck, cried,I was out a few seconds, bruised, bloody, broken glasses, just told my daughter and she cried. I always fall since my breast was removed.I tell you sounds scary what your husband went thru.I hope you will go next get tested
