Travel Photo Journal 2: North Adams: Mass MoCA
Approaching the entrance to Mass MoCA in the building with the clock tower; the buildings through the front gate also house business, shops and a restaurant.
It took two days to plow through the galleries. I’ll just touch on some of the work.
Art in the lot: SuttonBeresCuller: Big Top Grand Stand
The building is a conglomerate of huge spaces that have been divided into smaller units. Above, looking through the main level, with back to gallery entrance (that expands to three floors) toward the shop and café beyond. To the left is the entrance, to the right are the outdoor venues.
The weather reminded me of that in Copenhagen: one minute the sun was shining and the next it was pouring; a good day to be in exploring. Mouse-over photos to see captions, or click on them to enlarge.

Clifford Ross’ (b. 1952, NYC)
Works are monumental and span two buildings. He constructed his own camera to take massive photographs. The main exhibit hall displays an inconceivably large negative-like photo of trees printed on wood (as seen behind the trio on the left). To further illustrate the size of the photographic work, the following were taken from an upper gallery, looking down:
The exhibit continues in another building with large photographs of oceans. First the building’s structure:

Every color, every dot, a glowing light, ever changing.
thanks Susan, would love to see this someday on one of our trips to New England. But if that doesn’t happen, I still feel as tho’ I have been there.
Great photos as always…your lessons have really enhanced your natural talent and genetic disposition 🙂
I love the digital hurricane.
Your pictures are beautiful, with good explanations!
Impressive for the sheer size. Must be seen in person.
Thanks for the wonderful tour
