Vintage and Antique Travel Bracelets: Italy
This album is part of my “travel series.” Again, these are my one-of-a-kind creations. After collecting charms for just a bit my consciousness was awakened to travel charms. I made most of my purchases through ebay where one can find sellers from all over the world. I joined a group of charm collectors on ebay who collect vintage charms. The group is run by the most knowledgable and brilliant woman, Joan Munkasci. (Joan is the daughter of the late Martin Munkasci, the world famous fashion photographer.) We would post our creations and “ooh and ahhh” over each other’s collections; Joan’s … Continue reading →
Vintage Charm Bracelets:All my designs and creations:The heart series
The “Am I blue?” bracelet is a mix of enameled and non-enameled and stone inlay hearts in shades of blue. The bracelet itself is probably from the 1970’s, but the woven mesh and silver work goes well with the charms. Many of the charms are engraved: Ruby, C.T., Dot, B.M., J/r, M.M., Maurice, M.C. Papa, Sarah. The engraving style varies and indicates the age of the piece. The second piece, “Hearts and Flowers” is unique in that the 1970’s chain is double. The charms are a mélange of enamel and non-enamel, and stone inlay, from different time periods. The little … Continue reading →

564. Mercury in Retrograde: here we go again!
I am not a superstitious person and I like to have some kind of “scientific proof” for popular beliefs. Most of the time. A number of years ago someone called the concept of “Mercury in Retrograde” to my attention and since then I have noted curious events. When a planet is “in retrograde” it appears to be moving backwards. It first appears to stand still, then back up, stand still again and then move forward. The length of the retrograde depends on the planet’s orbit and for Mercury it is usually about twenty-two days. Mercury is the messenger, … Continue reading →
Photography: Dichoroic Glass
I have been collecting dichroic glass jewelry for at least 12 years. It is a real attention getter; whenever I wear it, strangers walk up to me and ask what it is. It has a smooth glass surface and embedded in it are many layers of metallics that diffuse light differently creating a shimmering effect and color change when viewed from different angles. My first purchases were from the KROMA studio, located in New Mexico, but their beautiful pieces can be found in art shops all over the country. A husband and wife team developed dichroic glass for jewelry, beginning … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday Revisited I have had a few poems cooking and this is a first draft. It’s been a long while since I had the time or inclination to write; there’s been too much going on in my life. I began the poem last night and have edited it about 20 times so far. It’s never finished! Friday Night on Bell 1 Muni Meter The Muni Meter was broken. No need to feed coins or cards said two young women, long hair and busty. They were on their way up Bell to hit the bars. What … Continue reading →
364. POETRY: The key poem for book: The Cerebral Jukebox
It is done. I felt that my book should have a featured poem that would reflect the title. This was weighing on me for months. Then it hit me. In 1968 I studied writing at The City College of New York. I finally had the space in my schedule, and I registered for fiction writing with author, Mark J. Mirsky, and nonfiction writing with the author, Eve Merriam. They were cool, smart and funny. Both liked my work. But I was a kid, had so little experience to draw upon. I realize now how living and learning is key to … Continue reading →

The beautiful, restored Victorian Flushing Town Hall (near the hubbub of Main Street Flushing, not far from Citifield (the replacement for Shea Stadium), is now a cultural hub and the home of jazz. You can follow the Queens Jazz Trail here. If you are a lover of jazz and coming to New York City, order the maps and info from the link above and take the walking tours. The borough of Queens is the home to many of the performers in the newly formed Jazz Orchestra. It is home to Jimmy Heath, and was the home to the late Louis … Continue reading →
