214 a. More Friday Fluff: Sans Souci Shops

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 8, 2012

Looka my new stuff!  This year has been full of celebrations; I was in the mood for a little serious shopping, after all, it’s sale time. The dress is Kay Unger, beautiful polished cotton in a gleamy gunmetal with white dots.  There’s actually a small crinoline at the hem. Started out at over $400: SALE! COUPONS! way under 1/2 price… I decided it needed some color POP! Went to a discount shoe store; Nada. Went to Macy’s with no expectations, but there was a SALE so I pulled out the stops on coupons and pulled another nice save. The outfit: … Continue reading →

344. Read this, you’ll be a better person for it. My bi-coastal hero, Dave Eggers

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 7, 2013

I first learned of Dave Eggers last May when attending my son’s graduation at Brown University. I was so taken by his personal story and hoped that I could share a video with you taken that day. At this time I am unable to get the equipment and software together to do so, thus I will offer the following biography from the IMDB and then a video, and you will see: Dave is an inspiration; we should all know of him and what he has given the world. Then we should follow his lead.  Mini Biography When Dave Eggers was … Continue reading →

191. Song Saturday: 3/22/08: Mahler, symph no. 5: Gustavo Dudamel Conducts The Simón Bolivar Youth Orchestra

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciFebruary 21, 2015

True class: South America’s lightning conductor . . . what I experienced was sensational. His name is Gustavo Dudamel . . . he produced enough electricity to light up Birmingham . . . a young man with boundless talent, deeply in love, and the world at his feet.” The Times; (London), February 2007 Here’s a change of pace for Sans Souci of the rock & roll hearted.  What most people may not know about me is that I live in a household with thousands of classical music CD’s, and that my husband, son, and I are actual card-carrying members of … Continue reading →

29. Are you an inny or an outty?

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 7, 2013

original post 5/4/07 I’ve been blogging a little more than a month and have made some observations about people’s blogs and personalities. They are like belly buttons: some are innies and some are outties. I am usually an inny.  I am using my blog to explore the  world through my reactions to it, mainly through artistic expression. Rather than post a political or social essay, I gravitate to commentary through a poetic or photographic reaction in order to make my statement. Somehow the abstract is easier for me. I react to stimuli within. I am more of a filter.   … Continue reading →

49. Freddy Osborn, Kansas City, 1936 Part II

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 7, 2013

Yesterday I mentioned that something caught me at that exhibit and didn’t let me go; there were several front pages of  The New York Times   from 1936.  The first grabbed me, the second one hit me.  Here is the previous post. The pages both had large articles about Robert Moses opening a new swimming pool. However, on the first, in the lower left corner, was the following news: Hitler had decided that his army should no longer wear blue, the color of past oppression; hence, the Nazi regime decided to switch to green. And then I thought: if I could … Continue reading →

48. Robert Moses, My New York, and 1936: Part 1

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 19, 2012 by Sans SouciJanuary 7, 2013

Last week my son and I went to the Queens Museum in Flushing, New York, to see a part of an exhibit in various museums in the city on Robert Moses.  If you are not familiar with Robert Moses, suffice it to say he changed the face and infrastructure of New York City and its environs.  He was referred to as the “master builder” of the city.  He was a visionary, who was born in 1888; he was a participant in the construction of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs, he was influential in getting the United Nations established in … Continue reading →

228. From Mahler x 3, to postal poop, to getting screwed, to lightening bolts…

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 18, 2012 by Sans SouciDecember 15, 2012

This has been a strange week, indeed.  Bear with me and let me do my stream of consciousness. 1. It started with Tuesday Several people have asked about the Mahler concert (Mahler’s 8th “Symphony of a Thousand”); it was an experience.  Getting up to the balcony at good old Carnegie Hall was like an upwards trek in the outback.  Elevator? Who needs the elevator, we are already in the crowd pushing up the stairs. The equivalent of 8 flights. Or more.  I am still panting.  Then once up, it’s straight down to the seats.  I felt I needed a reverse … Continue reading →

6. What’s Left Of Me

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 18, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 8, 2012

I am a righty. Have always been. There is nothing I can do with my left hand that is anywhere near what I can do with my right. So it was strange when my left elbow locked, just barely noticeably angled from where it should be. It wouldn’t release. This happened maybe 5 years ago. A visit to the chiropractor; he took me by the hand and jolted my arm, and me, like he was pumping water to the desert. After I put my eyes back into my head, I looked at my arm. It hadn’t budged. (My shoulder approached … Continue reading →

27. It’s An Avatar World

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 18, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 8, 2012

I woke up this morning at 4:00 A.M. with my brain burning.I never give in to the writing process when I am semi conscious; I usually just lie in bed and think and lose some of my best ideas to the sunrise. Today was different; this time I got up and wrote on paper instead of my pillow. It takes me a while to run with an idea; the seed is planted by a sentence I’ve heard, something I’ve seen, whether it be a strand of music, or a strand of hair on a brush. Eventually it all comes together, … Continue reading →

1. May 28, 2007: It starts here…with a decision

Cerebral Jukebox Magazine Posted on May 17, 2012 by Sans SouciNovember 8, 2012

1. To blog, or not to blog???? I can see how this will consume me! Ok, I’ll blog!       It is a big decision to venture out there, in public, and lay out my thoughts.   You’ll find poetry that I have written recently and a while back, a story here and there, photography, art, and all the music that plays in the background. I have a feeling this will be the discipline I need to pull it all together. Blogland looks like an interesting place. I guess I’ll unpack and stay a while.   Time is passing … Continue reading →
